Fun top country songs

Here is my list of fun top country songs!  They are listed by song title with the name of the recording artist and album.  I hope you enjoy it and tell me some of your favorites.

  1. Long Time Gone - Dixie Chicks. Album: Home (2002). I believe this is the very best of the Dixie Chicks.
  2. Good Day to Run - Darryl Worley. Album: Hard Rain Don't Last (2000). This song came from his debut album. It was his second hit after "When you need my love."
  3. Mud on the Tires - Brad Paisley. Album: Mud on the Tires (2003). My favorite Brad Paisley album! Hilarious hit "Celebrity" is also on this one.
  4. Lodi - Emmylou Harris and the Nash Ramblers. Album: At the Ryman (1992). This album was recorded from a live concert at the Ryman Auditorium, hence the name. It has a terrific bluegrass sound and great vocals. Overall, this is easily my favorite bluegrass album.
  5. Should Have Been a Cowboy - Toby Keith. Album: Toby Keith (1993). This became the song most played on the radio during the 1990s.
  6. Drive - Alan Jackson. Album: Drive (2002). This was Alan Jackson's tenth studio album. The hits don't stop coming from AJ.
  7. Mountain Music - Alabama. Album: Mountain Music (1982). "Mountain Music" is the signature song for this group that became so influential in country music during the 1980s.
  8. Baby Girl - Sugarland. Album: Twice the Speed of Life (2004). The first hit from their debut album is still my favorite song of theirs.
  9. Devil Went Down to Georgia - Charlie Daniels Band. Album: Million Mile Reflections (1989). Definitely a classic-it seems like you can't attend a bluegrass concert without hearing this song.
  10. Redneck Woman - Gretchen Wilson. Album: Here for the Party (2004). This incredible smash hit got her on the map for good in country music.
  11. Modern Day Bonnie and Clyde - Travis Tritt. Album: Down the Road I Go (2000). For some outlaw fun, you can't beat "Modern Day Bonnie and Clyde".
  12. Beer for my Horses - Toby Keith and Willie Nelson. Album: Beer for my Horses (2008). What better song could follow Modern Day Bonnie and Clyde? I hope Toby and Willie make more music together.
  13. Girls Lie, Too - Terri Clark. Album: Definitive Collection (2008). "Girls Lie, Too" is a fun-loving and too true song.
  14. Party for Two - Shania Twain and Mark McGrath/Billy Currington. Album: Greatest Hits (2004). This was originally recorded with Mark McGrath, but the studio wanted the song done with Billy Currington so it was re-recorded with Billy Currington. It was decided to keep both versions in the album.
  15. I Just Want to Dance with You - George Strait. Album: One Step at a Time (1998). This upbeat song remains one of King George's best #1 hits, in my view.
  16. Big Star - Kenny Chesney. Album: No Shirt No Shoes No Problem (2002). Kenny Chesney was definitely a "Big Star" on his No Shirt No Shoes No Problem tour after his 7th studio release.
  17. Hell Yeah - Montgomery Gentry. Album: My Town (2002). The best of these two southern country/rock bad boys.
  18. Five O'Clock Somewhere - Alan Jackson. Album: Greatest Hits Volume 2 (2004). The song is very catchy and the video is great.
  19. What was I Thinkin' - Dierks Bentley. Album: Dierks Bentley (2003). This song from his first album quickly rose to the top of the charts. I loved it the first time I heard it.
  20. Little Red Rodeo - Collin Raye. Album: The Best of Collin Raye Direct Hits (1997). This single was written by Phil Vassar.
  21. Wild at Heart - Gloriana. Album: Gloriana (2009). This new band struck gold with "Wild at Heart." I'm looking forward to more hits in the future.
  22. Ten Degrees and Getting Colder - Nanci Griffith. Album: Other Voices, Other Rooms (1993). This was written by Gordon Lightfoot and recorded by Nanci Griffith on this terrific album that features songs by some of her other favorite songwriters, including Janis Ian and John Prine.
  23. As Good as I Once Was - Toby Keith (2005).  Album: Honkytonk University.  A great song and a great album name.  The video shows TKs humor, too, especially the very end part.  Don't miss it if you somehow haven't seen it!
  24. Wild Angels - Martina McBride. Album: Wild Angels (1995). Martina McBride's third album went platinum in the US and Canada as well.
  25. Nothin' but the Taillights - Clint Black. Album: Nothin' but the Taillights (2007). The catchy tune "Nothin' but the Taillights" became an instant hit with country and NASCAR fans.
  26. She's in Love with the Boy - Trisha Yearwood. Album: Greatest Hits (2007). This is Trisha Yearwood's best known song and with good reason: it's fun, it's upbeat, and she has a wonderful voice.
  27. Friends in Low Places - Garth Brooks. Album: No Fences (2000). Classic Garth!
  28. The Lucky One - Alison Krauss and Union Station. Album: New Favorite (2001). This album won a Grammy for best bluegrass album.
  29. She's Taken a Shine - John Berry. Album: Greatest Hits (2000). This number is John Berry's best hit, apart from his incredible recording of "O Holy Night".

Thanks a bunch! Music is such a subjective thing. Perhaps some people will find a few songs they haven't heard, decide to check them out, and enjoy them, too.

The songs that make us grin. My funny favorites include Rodney Crowell's "She's Crazy for Leaving" and Dwight Yoakam's "Intentional Heartache."

Thanks for sharing your list. I'm puzzled about the inclusion of "Lodi," however. That song (originally by Creedence Clearwater Revival) never struck me as a "fun" song but rather a song of desperation: someone trying to get out of a place they're "stuck in" repeatedly.

Good hub!
